Criminal Background Checks

Criminal Record Check Requirements

In order to for us to ensure that all of our employees are cleared to work with children we, like all responsible education companies, require for our staff to provide us with a criminal records check or a ‘Certificate of Good Character’ in order to work with us.

In order to ensure the safety of our students, apart from checking with candidates references, we will require a form of ‘Certificate of Good Character’ or an official document stating whether a candidate has a criminal record. This will be asked of you once a contract is offered with us. Please find below a list of the most common nationalities that work with us and what is required from each of those countries.

Republic of Ireland

In Ireland there are two possible types of documents that we will accept:

  1. Garda Vetting
If someone already is garda vetted and has the proof of this garda vetting within the last two years we will accept this. Individuals cannot request this themselves so if you do not have this already then we require the second option:
  2. Data Protection Form
In order to request a data protection form you must download the F-20 form and complete it with your information (When it asks you to “please specify” you need to write “Criminal Reference Check”).
Along with the form completed and signed you will need to have proof of identification (photocopy of passport) and a Personal Cheque/Money Order/Postal Order for €6.35, made payable to “The Accountant, Department of Justice”. All of this should be posted to Data Protection Processing Unit, Garda Criminal
Records Office, Racecourse Road, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.
    This will take 2-3 weeks.

United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland)

For candidates from the U.K. there are two main ‘Certificate of Good Character’ that we accept:

  1. Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks (previously CRB checks)
This is a requirement to have to work in education in the U.K. so if a candidate has a valid copy of this from within the last two years we will accept that. Individuals cannot request this themselves so if you do not have this already then we require the second option:
  2. Basic Disclosure from Disclosure Scotland
Disclosure Scotland are a body that provide criminal record checks for all U.K. nationals or residents. In order to apply it a candidate can do so by going online to the Disclose Scotland website and apply for it online. The fee for the basic disclosure is £25 and various documents will need to be provided. Your application will take approximately 14 days to process.

Spain

In Spain candidates must get a Certificado por Delitos de Naturaleza Sexual. In order to get this candidates must fill out a Modelo 790, pay the €3,70 in a bank, and either:
